Finally

So I finally broke down and bought a bridal magazine. It is fine. It turns out that they are all ads. I know some people like to look at all the pictures of all sorts of wedding dresses, but I have something in my head. I just can't describe it. I will know when I see it. I know it is not poufy or heavily beaded and that is what the gowns in the magazine looked like. I am glad I bought it, I might even buy another one at some point.

Still no closer to having a location. We talked about a destination wedding last night I don't think that will solve very much. I can't imagine my wedding without friends and family around. I fell like a destination wedding will just lead to a local reception. That means we would plan two weddings (well a wedding, a small reception and then another reception). Too much. I am still very confident that everything will fall into place quickly. We just need to find our dream location.

Work has been crazy,  my sense of humor is spent on 130 kids with sunscreen in their eyes. I will try t be wittier later.

procrastination is a dish best served later

For the first time in 5 days I do not have a rash or hives and I am not itching. Sweet relief.

Dave leaves today to begin his 5 week stint at camp. We still haven't chosen a reception site. So I will work on that, I guess, and schedule appointments for his days off ( I think he has something like 3 of those). I am determined to get things going and soon. Time is ticking and the longer I put it off the easier it is to ignore. I need to re-motivate. So any friends... or moms... or sisters... who need/want something to do, let me know. I work better with a companion.

Oh that dress matches your hives perfectly...

I broke out in a head to toe rash on Sunday. The only two things I had done differently was go wedding dress shopping and be six days into an amoxicillin perscription. After much internet research, it turns out you can not be allergic to wedding dresses. So now I suffer through an itchy ammoxicillian allergic reaction. I am talking itchy. I can't sleep because I am so itchy. Hopefully this new medication I am on will clear this right up and it can't happen soon enough.

More wedding updates later.

Nightmare on Church Street

My wedding dress excursion would have made a great episode of What Not to Wear. Needless to say, nothing stood out. I am not stressing, I have a long time before this becomes urgent.

My lack of success might have something to do with the fact that I am anti bridal shops. I just want a white evening dress, nothing fancy. Sooooo, after failing to find anything remotely acceptable in regular stores and against my better judgment, I allowed my mother and sister to convince me to just look in the window of a bridal shop. I knew where this was going, but I played along- determined to stand my ground. Of course window shopping led to "well lets just go towards the entrance". Right. We got to the entrance and to my horror you had to walk through an archway to get to the dresses...vomit. BUT IT GETS WORSE! Prior to the archway there was a basket of white gloves which you were required to wear in the store AND you had to take off your shoes. I understand skin oils, fine fabrics...blah blah blah, but my shoes. I don’t get it. We didn't go in.

It is tough to plan a wedding when you are an anti-bride.

fixed it

Apparently leaving comments on my blog was confusing, but I think I have fixed it. Comments no longer have to be approved by me...now that is trust ladies .( I am not naive enough to believe a guy somewhere is reading this ~ hey, but if you are, drop a comment. It is easy).

Nothing on the wedding front. The dreams have returned. Every night. But they are now anxiety filled as Dave has 6 days (nonconsecutive) until he is gone until August. Plus I have been sick, thus putting the gym on hold until I can swallow without whimpering in pain. I am suppose to look at wedding dresses this weekend and I haven't worked out once this week.

I am going to need some Valium and soon.

yuck!

Okay, it turns out that 3 hour nap on Saturday had less to do with standardize tests and more to do with this nasty infection that is currently making its home on my tonsils.  The doctor says it is not strep, so who knows what it is. I am currently home trying to bang out a blog in between 90 minute naps.

I have started looking at wedding favors. You can really send your guests home with some crap. Anyone care to weigh in on good favors to receive? My only requirement is that it is small and travel well. Many of our guests are flying.

We are waiting to hear back from our wedding planner. I want to put down a deposit this week, so cross your fingers. We have sent her a list of questions, hopefully she will give us the answers we are looking for.

Okay... nap time.

Married Away

I am watching Married Away on the Style network. This couple is getting married at the Southfork Ranch...you know, of Dallas fame. I wonder if the Walsh house (Beverly Hills 90210, folks, stay with me) is available or maybe I could just have it at the beach club.

Academia kicked my butt

So this is not wedding related, but it is my blog so I will write on the topic of my choosing.

I took two of the three cetification tests you need to be a teaher in NY. I figured it would be one long, giant game of Are You Smarter that a Fifth Grader. I have taken certification tests before ( I move a lot so NY would be my third teahing certification) and usually they test to make sure you know a little bit of everything up to a 6th grade level. Not New York. Geez.

I could not even tell you what was on the first test I took. All I know is that I read eighty passages and answered eighty questions. I have no clue what they questions were about or what they proved. It actually had little to do with education. Test me on content knowledge...test me on learning styles...test me on teaching techniques...test me on something. I honestly fel the test was only testing my literacy. Way to have faith in your higer education system.

The second test was more my speed. Content knowledge. It really was like playing  Smarter than a 5th grader. It was fabulous. I had so much fun figuring out word problems and algebraic equations. Stuff I loved abut school that you don't do as an adult (well unless I am helping with homework at work). I should have been a math teacher...if only I could grasp trig.

Regardless after being there for 8.5 hours I came home and took a three hour nap. Thinking is exhausting.

Okay. Next post will be about the wedding.

HA!

This site is getting 25 hits a day! Twenty five people actually care enough to check this daily. Not bad. I hope I don't disappoint. I am also assuming it is just five really eager people who check the site multiple times looking for an update.

Not much is new on the wedding front. We have yet to officially decide on a place. Cold feet? I don't think so. The reality of spending 25% of what we make in a year on ONE day (albeit one VERY special day) sinking in? Maybe. We will get there. Baby steps.

I am experimenting with hair color. Well, actually, I am tired of looking at the clash between my auburn hair and my awful red work shirt everyday. I am trying medim brown today. I hope it works. I think maybe I will go darker eventually. Just when I had accepted my hair color I get a job that requires me to wear red. I had effectivly avoided the color up until then.

Okay you five, tomorrow is a busy day. I wouldn't check back until Sunday.

two good decisions

My sister called today. Today is her anniversary. Last night they spent an evening at the inn where they were married. She called to tell me a funny story about their evening. She had actually wanted to call me when the incident occurred, but , as her husband pointed out, that would not have fit in with the whole "get away" theme. No one else in the world would call me admist a romantic evening to share a story. That is why she is my matron of honor.

I am blogging from my new laptop. Dave set it up for me today while I was at a training. Not only did he get me on to out wireless network (not an easy feat as we had forgotten our passcode) but he also set it up so that the sites I go to most are in my history and /or in my favorites. It is the little things that make him the greatest fiance in the world.

We haven't put a deposit down yet on the wedding site. I think we might look one more place, just to be sure. I don't know. More on this later.
